This course encompasses the current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR and ECC guidelines. Successful performance of a skills exam is required for a completion card. Students may also select to only sit for the CPR & AED portion (3.5 hours), or only sit for the First Aid portion (3.5 hours). Taking the entire 8-hour course is encouraged.

You MUST bring a copy of the CURRENT textbook to the course.

You WILL NOT BE ADMITTED to the class without the required textbook. You can purchase the manual online.

Physical Requirements

You must be able to physically demonstrate the skills in order to receive a certification.

Course Content

This course includes the following for assisting in the care of an adult victim:

  • Recognizing Medical Emergencies including breathing problems, heart attack, allergic reactions, fainting, diabetes and low blood sugar, stroke, seizures, heat-and cold-related emergencies, and shock.
  • Recognizing and Treating Traumatic Emergencies such as insect stings & bites, bleeding wounds, burns, electrocution, and broken bones.
  • Accessing the Emergency Medical System (911)
  • Assisting a Victim of Choking
  • Giving Chest Compressions, or CPR
  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
