Interested in Becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)?

The GW Medical Faculty Associates Department of Emergency Medicine is excited to offer an Accelerated EMT Program beginning May 4th, 2026 on Mondays, Wednesdays, with several Saturday labs. This course includes an optional course extension to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).

This 14-week intensive course is designed for individuals seeking to enter the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or begin a rewarding career in healthcare, public safety, or emergency response. Whether your goal is to work with a fire department, EMS agency, or hospital, this course will provide the essential knowledge and hands-on experience to prepare you for real-world patient care.

  • Taught by practicing GW Department of Emergency Medicine clinicians and educators.

  • Clinical rotations with affiliated emergency medical institutions.
  • Eligibility to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam upon successful completion.
  • Optional bridge course to Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), following successful completion of the course.

Class Schedule

Program Dates: May 4 – August 16 2026

Mondays & Wednesdays: 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Saturdays: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM 5/9, 5/16, 6/6, 6/20, 6/27, 7/11, 7/25, 8/8, 8/15

NREMT Psychomotor Testing Dates: August 15 & 16 2026 (Saturday & Sunday)

Tuition and Fees

Total Tuition: $3,750

Deposit: $1,000 (required to reserve a seat or wait-list spot)

  • Non-refundable after April 20 2026 (if seated in the class)
  • Refundable at any time if on the wait list and not seated

Additional Costs (not included in tuition):

  • NREMT Cognitive Exam Fee – $104
  • Background check, drug screen, and immunization tracking – $150

Tuition Includes

  • All course materials (textbook, eBook, and audiobook)
  • Vital signs equipment (including stethoscope)
  • Learning management system with practice exams, supplemental materials, and interactive learning tools
  • American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification
  • NREMT Psychomotor (skills) testing

Admission Requirements

Students must:

  • Provide documentation of up-to-date vaccinations (including Covid-19), physical exam, background check, and drug screen (required prior to clinical rotations).
  • Meet the attendance and physical performance standards outlined in the Student Handbook.
  • Have reliable internet access and a personal computing device capable of completing assignments, quizzes, and online exams.
  • Be able to attend the first day of the course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates are eligible to take the National Registry EMT Certification Exam. For more information about certification requirements, visit the NREMT website.
