Interested in Becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)?

The GW Medical Faculty Associates Department of Emergency Medicine is excited to offer an Accelerated EMT Program (EMT2026-007)April–June Daytime cohort — running from April 27 – June 7, 2026, with an optional course extension to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).

This daytime intensive course is designed for individuals seeking to enter the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or begin a rewarding career in healthcare, public safety, or emergency response. Whether your goal is to work with a fire department, EMS agency, or hospital, this course will provide the essential knowledge and hands-on experience to prepare you for real-world patient care.

  • Taught by practicing GW Department of Emergency Medicine clinicians and educators.
  • Hands-on labs and high-fidelity simulations to develop practical skills.
  • Clinical rotations with affiliated emergency medical institutions.
  • Eligibility to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam upon successful completion.
  • Optional bridge course to Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), following successful completion of the course.

NREMT Psychomotor Testing Dates: June 6 (Sat) & June 7 (Sun), 2026

Tuition and Fees

Total Tuition: $3,750

Deposit: $1,000 (required to reserve a seat or wait list spot)

  • Refund policy: Refund deadline is two weeks prior to the start date. For this class, the deposit becomes non-refundable after April 13, 2026 (if seated in the class).
  • Refundable at any time if on the wait list and not seated

Additional Costs (not included in tuition):

  • NREMT Cognitive Exam Fee – $104
  • Background check, drug screen, and immunization tracking – $150

Tuition Includes

  • All course materials (textbook, eBook, and audiobook)
  • Vital signs equipment (including stethoscope)
  • Learning management system with practice exams, supplemental materials, and interactive learning tools
  • American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification
  • NREMT Psychomotor (skills) testing

Admission Requirements

Students must:

  • Provide documentation of up-to-date vaccinations (including Covid-19), physical exam, background check, and drug screen (required prior to clinical rotations).
  • Meet the attendance and physical performance standards outlined in the Student Handbook.
  • Have reliable internet access and a personal computing device capable of completing assignments, quizzes, and online exams.
  • Be able to attend the first day of the course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates are eligible to take the National Registry EMT Certification Exam.
