This course encompasses the current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR and ECC guidelines. You will receive an orientation to the simulation manikin, cardiac monitor, BLS and ALS airway equipment. After the orientation, you will complete the skills testing. While a review of information from the PALS curricula will be covered, you will not receive formal instruction on the curricula or algorithms. Please allow for at least 2 hours to complete the skills session. More time may be necessary if you require remediation.

You MUST bring a copy of the Online Part 1 Course Completion Certificate. You WILL NOT BE ADMITTED to the session without completion of the online component. 

This course meets all requirements for initial certification or recertification.

Physical Requirements

You must be able to physically demonstrate the skills in order to receive a certification.

Course Content

This course includes the following: 

  • Emphasis on Basic Life Support including skills practice
  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • The systematic approach to pediatric patient assessment
  • Recognition & Treatment of Respiratory Distress & Respiratory Failure
  • Recognition of Shock Emergencies
  • Recognition & Treatment of Pre-Arrest conditions
  • Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
  • Utilization of the team-resuscitation dynamic
  • Treatment of cardiac arrest
  • Management of stable & unstable bradycardia & tachycardias
  • Opportunity to review advanced airway management

This course does not include:

  • Formal instruction on placement of advanced airways
  • Formal instruction on rhythm identification & ECG interpretation
  • The American Heart Association has created eLearning courses as an alternative to the traditional classroom courses. These courses are available online and must be completed prior to your skills session. The online modules can be completed at your leisure. You do not have to complete the course all at once. The online learning for PALS will take approximately 8 hours to complete all required modules. If you do not successfully complete an online module in two attempts, the traditional course will be required for certification.
