This course encompasses the current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR and ECC guidelines. You will receive an orientation to the simulation manikin, cardiac monitor, BLS and ALS airway equipment. After the orientation, you will complete the skills testing. While a review of information from the ACLS curricula will be covered, you will not receive formal instruction on the curricula or algorithms. Please allow for at least 2 hours to complete the skills session. More time may be necessary if you require remediation.

You MUST bring a copy of the Online Part 1 Course Completion Certificate. You WILL NOT BE ADMITTED to the session without completion of the online component. Unless ACLS resuscitation falls within your daily job operations, the GW Training Center recommends taking the one-day recertification course.

Physical Requirements

You must be able to physically demonstrate the skills in order to receive a certification.

Passing Requirements

Successful completion of all the following stations is required to pass:

  1. Management of a respiratory arrest (including BLS ventilation with a bag-valve mask, oral & nasal airway)
  2. 1-Person CPR and AED BLS cardiac arrest management
  3. ACLS Megacode station with multiple rhythm recognitions, pharmacological and electrical interventions as well as post-resuscitation care.

If you do not successfully complete a station, you will be given one chance to reattempt the station the same day. If you do not successfully pass, you will be required to remediate and retake the skills test at another time. Many people who attempt this type of recertification find it challenging and do not successfully complete the requirements. This will require additional education and often times participants will end up taking the one-day recertification course. Refunds will not be issues for those who do not successfully complete the skills session. Additionally, funds will not be applied towards additional training.

Online eLearning Course Information

The American Heart Association has created eLearning courses as an alternative to the traditional classroom courses. These courses are available online and must be completed prior to your skills session. The online modules can be completed at your leisure. You do not have to complete the course all at once. The online learning for ACLS will take approximately 8 hours to complete all required modules. If you do not successfully complete an online module in two attempts, the traditional course will be required for certification. If you have technical problems completing the online course, please contact technical support at 888-242-8883 from 9 AM - 5 PM EST Monday - Friday.
