The GW Medical Faculty Associates Department of Emergency Medicine is excited to offer an Advanced EMT Program beginning January 13, 2027 on Wednesday evenings and Sunday days.
This 26-week intensive course is designed for individuals who currently are Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) seeking to expand their scope of practice in the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Whether your goal is to work with a fire department, EMS agency, or hospital, this course will provide the essential knowledge and hands-on experience to expand your scope of practices in real-world patient care.

- Taught by practicing GW Department of Emergency Medicine clinicians and educators.
- Hands-on labs and high-fidelity simulations to develop practical skills.
- Eligibility to sit for the National Registry of Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (NRAEMT) exam upon successful completion.

Program Dates: January 13. 2027 - July18, 2027
Class Days:
- Wednesdays (virtual): 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Sundays (in-person): 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM

Tuition and Fees
Tuition: $1,000 deposit, $3000 due 14 days after the course's start
- Refund deadline: December 31, 2026 (non-refundable after this date if seated in the class)
- Refundable at any time if on the wait list and not seated.
Additional Costs (not included in tuition):
- NRAEMT Cognitive Exam Fee – $159
- Background check, drug screen, and immunization tracking – $150
Tuition Includes
- All course materials (textbook, eBook, and audiobook)
- Vital signs equipment (including stethoscope)
- Learning management system with practice exams, supplemental materials, and interactive learning tools
- American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification
Admission Requirements
- Provide documentation of up-to-date vaccinations (including Covid-19), physical exam, background check, and drug screen (required prior to clinical rotations).
- Meet the attendance and physical performance standards outlined in the Student Handbook.
- Have reliable internet access and a personal computing device capable of completing assignments, quizzes, and online exams.
- Be able to attend the first day of the course.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, graduates are eligible to take the National Registry Advanced EMT Certification Exam. For more information about certification requirements, visit the NREMT website.
